MAYNARD — Fire Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm house fire early Wednesday evening.

At approximately 5:55 p.m., Maynard Fire responded to a report of a fire at 10 Orchard Terrace. Upon arrival, crews witnessed heavy smoke coming from the home. All residents were reported as being out of the home by the time crews arrived on scene.

The fire was determined to be located in the basement, and a second alarm was quickly transmitted as firefighters began an aggressive attack.

Firefighters were able to successfully bring the fire under control in approximately one hour.

Normal mutual aid was hampered due to a large volume of emergency calls in the area due to the weather.

Two pets were rescued from the building and returned to the homeowners. The majority of the damage was contained to the basement.

Fire Departments from Boxborough, Concord, Sudbury, Stow, Littleton, Weston, Hudson and Westford, as well as the Department of Fire Services Rehabilitation Unit and Professional Ambulance Company provided mutual aid at the scene. Crews from Marlboro and Bedford provided station coverage and responded to other emergencies in Maynard during the time of the fire.

There were no injuries reported.

“The Maynard Fire Department is extremely grateful to each of the neighboring departments that provided aid during this fire, when there were many other emergencies happening at the same time that also required personnel and resources,” Chief Stowers said. “Thankfully there were no injuries to the occupants of the home, nor to any of the firefighters who responded.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Massachusetts Fire District 14 Fire Investigation Team, and it is uncertain yet if it was a weather-related incident.
