HOLBROOK — Director Steve Hooke reports that the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center handled more than 100 calls Wednesday during the fast-moving storms that hit Norfolk County.

During the three-hour period between 6 and 9 p.m., HRECC telecommunicators received 120 911 calls, 109 Emergency CAD entries (including two calls for CPR) and 77 business line calls. More than 82% of calls received were wireless.

“This was a very quick and intense storm, and all calls met or exceeded National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards,” Director Hooke said. “Telecommunicators acted quickly and effectively during the entire event, as they do whenever a weather-related incident such as the one we saw wednesday happens to occur.”

A band of strong thunderstorms passed across Massachusetts Wednesday evening, with wind gusts of up to 60-70 miles per hour according to the  Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. Weather forecasts indicate that sustained winds of up to 15 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 30 miles per hour, would continue through the night and into Thursday morning.
