SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Chief Steven Pinch and the Union Fire District of South Kingstown regretfully announce the passing of Forestry Station 3 lifetime member and past president Richard “Rick” Holland.

Holland, a Peace Dale resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 28, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 75.

In addition to his tenure with UFDSK, Holland served as Chairman of the Building Committee for the addition to South Kingstown High School and Hazard School, served nine years on the South Kingstown Planning Board, was a member of the South Kingstown Jaycees and the R.I. Electrical League, was dedicated to South County Hospital and was instrumental in the development of the South County Youth Soccer League.

He served in the United States Army, completing his last two years at a NATO assignment in the Netherlands. He also served as President of W.H. Holland Electric.

Holland leaves behind his loving wife Sue of 50 years, his son, William “Tad” and wife Onna, his daughter, Sarah Kelly, and her husband, Seth. He was the proud grandfather of grandchildren, Cole and Leah Holland, and Anna, Conor and Cora Kelly. He was the brother of Bill Holland and former Chief of the Union Fire District Peter Holland, both of Peace Dale.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Holland’s funeral services will be private.

“Rick was not only a dedicated member of the Union Fire District, but was also a passionate family man and community leader,” Chief Pinch said. “He will be greatly missed and remembered for the many contributions he made to the South Kingstown community and beyond. Our deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones.”
