GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred Mitchell reports that the Georgetown Fire Department is on-scene with National Grid crews at a gas leak on Searle Street.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., Georgetown Fire responded to the area of 5 Searle St. after a gas main was struck and damaged during road construction.
Searle Street, Tenney Street and Marlboro Road in Georgetown are closed, and homes in the area have been evacuated out of an abundance of caution. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and expect delays.
National Grid Massachusetts Gas crews have secured the leak and are working to repair it. It is unclear at this time when the repairs will be complete.
The Groveland Fire Department is currently providing station coverage.
