SUDBURY — Chief Scott Nix reports that the Sudbury Police Department has charged two parents and their teenager following a large party at a private residence, at which a number of minors were found to be consuming alcoholic beverages.

The parents and their teenager, who was allegedly responsible for hosting the party, have all been charged under the Massachusetts Social Host Law.

Under the Massachusetts Social Host Law anyone “who is in control of the premises and who furnishes alcohol or allows it to be consumed on those premises” constitutes as a social host and may face fines, imprisonment or both.

On Friday, Sept. 11 at approximately 10 p.m., Sudbury Police responded to a home for a report of a large underage drinking party. Upon arrival, officers observed numerous individuals fleeing the scene as well as numerous alcoholic beverage containers and beer cans strewn about the back yard.

Numerous juveniles and open containers were found throughout the home as well, including the basement, where a large group of youths who were allegedly disregarding state mandated social distancing and face covering protocols had been gathering.

Several party attendees also made threatening comments towards the responding officers.

A minimum of 50 underage youths were present at the party. Police attempted to identify those who remained present and contacted each of the juvenile’s parents to make arrangements to pick up their children.

“We encourage residents to refrain from making any more volatile statements on social media regarding this incident as we are holding those responsible for providing the venue accountable,” Chief Nix said.

Police are actively investigating this incident in collaboration with the Sudbury Board of Health. Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School has also been notified.
