Effective Across Massachusetts Until 9 p.m. Tonight

SOMERSET – Chief George McNeil and the Somerset Police Department would like to inform residents of dangerous fire weather conditions for all of Massachusetts.

Effective until 9 p.m. tonight, all of Massachusetts is under a Red Flag Warning, which is a dangerous fire weather conditions alert. The alert has been issued due to dry conditions, low humidity and strong winds by the National Weather Service.

As a result of these conditions, the Somerset Fire Department has been working a troublesome brush fire for the past couple of days in the Rustic Acres section of Somerset.

The Somerset Police Department would like to remind residents to be extremely careful with any open flames during these weather conditions. All residents should be sure to properly dispose of smoking materials and use extra care with any outdoor cooking or open flames.

“We would like to stress the importance of our residents taking this warning seriously,” Chief McNeil said. “Our fire department has been battling brush fires over the past couple of days and we would like to prevent any further fires from happening.”
