COHASSET — Chief William Quigley reports that the Cohasset Police Department is actively responding to a motor vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning resulting in a fuel spill from a tractor trailer.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., Cohasset Police responded to the area of Route 3A near Beechwood Street for a report of a crash between a motor vehicle and a tractor trailer.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2010 Honda Accord was traveling west on Beechwood Street and ran a red light at the intersection of Route 3A, hitting the side of a 1991 Peterbuilt tractor trailer, rupturing the truck’s diesel fuel tank.
The crash has closed a portion of Route 3A South. Cohasset Fire Department crews and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection crews are on scene assisting Cohasset Police. Approximately 150 gallons of fuel have spilled onto the roadway.
Neither the operator of the motor vehicle, a 25-year-old male from Cohasset, nor the operator of the truck, a 58-year-old male from Middleborough, reported any injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Clean-up will continue into rush hour this evening with Cohasset Police officers on scene directing traffic. Motorists are asked to avoid the area while the scene is still active.
