NEWPORT — Chief Travis Bingham reports that the Newport Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted a woman and resisted arrest.
MARK COLLINS, AGE 58, of NEWPORT was arrested and charged with:
- Domestic Assault (Two Counts)
- Aggravated Assault
- Resisting Arrest
COLLINS is scheduled to be arraigned today in Orleans District Court after being held without bail over the weekend at the Northern State Correctional Facility.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, a woman reported to police that she had been assaulted by COLLINS at an apartment complex on East Main Street. COLLINS and the victim are known to each other.
Upon arrival at the location of the incident, officers entered COLLINS’ apartment. Officers were able to make contact with COLLINS, who was found holding a rifle across his chest. Despite allegedly resisting their efforts, officers were able to take possession of the rifle and safely take him into custody. No one was injured in the incident.
COLLINS was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility. COLLINS was previously convicted of resisting arrest in 2014.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
