Georgetown Fire Department Extinguishes Barn Fire

GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred Mitchell reports that the Georgetown Fire Department responded to a barn fire Sunday afternoon.

GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred Mitchell reports that the Georgetown Fire Department responded to a barn fire Sunday afternoon. 

At 4:23 p.m., the Georgetown Fire Department was dispatched to 150 Elm St. after a Georgetown Police Officer observed smoke coming from behind that address and discovered the barn was on fire. 

Georgetown Firefighters responded and worked quickly to extinguish the blaze, bringing the fire under control by approximately 5 p.m.The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike. There were no injuries to humans or animals as a result of the fire. The barn is considered a total loss.

Georgetown Fire was assisted in its response on-scene by the Groveland, Rowley and HAverhill Fire Departments, while the Boxford and West Newbury Fire Departments provided station coverage during the incident.
