ANDOVER — Chief Michael B. Mansfield is pleased to announce that Andover Fire Rescue has been awarded an approximately $336,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The funds will replace 46 firefighter breathing apparatus for the Department.
The grant is one of the largest grants the Andover Fire Department has received over the past several years, and was authored and submitted by Chief Mansfield.
“Andover Fire Rescue is grateful for this generous grant from FEMA and its support of our Department,” said Chief Mansfield. “These funds will allow us to replace used, old and damaged equipment. The health and safety of our firefighters remains paramount when operating in compromised atmospheres.”
The new equipment is expected to arrive for use early next year.
Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG)
Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) are allocated to fire departments nationally to fund and aid the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.
These federal grants help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
