CHELMSFORD — Police Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is currently at the scene of a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and a front-end loader.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Chelmsford Police responded to a call for a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Graniteville Road and School Street.
Upon arrival, officers observed a pickup truck that had collided with a front-end loader that was being driven down the road. The male driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man operating the front-end loader was also seriously injured and was transported by a Trinity EMS ambulance to Lowell General Hospital. The man is an employee of the Chelmsford Department of Public Works and was driving a town-owned front-end loader to help clear debris from the storm. His current condition is unknown at this time.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the Chelmsford Police Department and State Police detectives assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
