Winthrop Police Arrest Man on Drug and Firearm Charges

WINTHROP -- Chief Terence M. Delehanty reports that the Winthrop Police Department arrested a local man on firearm possession and drug charges on Tuesday.

WINTHROP — Chief Terence M. Delehanty reports that the Winthrop Police Department arrested a local man on firearm possession and drug charges on Tuesday.

TYRELL WILLIAMS, AGE 26, OF WINTHROP was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm Without a License, subsequent offence (two counts)
  • Possession of Ammunition Without a License, subsequent offence
  • Improper Storage of a Firearm (two counts)
  • Trafficking in a Class A Substance Over 200 grams (Fentanyl)
  • Possession Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute (Suboxone and Oxycodone)
  • Possession Class C Substance with Intent to Distribute (Prescription Drugs)
  • Possession Class D Substance with Intent to Distribute (Marijuana)
  • Possession of Class E Substance (Promethazine and Codeine)

On Tuesday, July 28 at approximately 1 p.m., officers from the Winthrop Police Department executed a search warrant at a home on Dix Street after an extensive investigation into reported drug activity at the home. As a result of the search, officers seized two firearms, approximately 200 grams of Fentanyl, numerous other illegal narcotics, packaging materials, cell phones, and other equipment and products consistent with those used to manufacture and sell narcotics. Officers also seized approximately $2,000cash located inside the home.


WILLIAMS was held with no bail and will be arraigned in East Boston Court on Thursday, July 30.

This was the fourth drug-related arrest made by the Winthrop Police Department since the beginning of June.

“I’m incredibly proud of the collaborative work done by the officers and detectives of the Winthrop Police Department who investigated these cases,” Chief Delehanty said. “Their work over the last few weeks has led to a significant amount of illegal drugs being taken off the streets, which has helped to further protect the safety of our residents and community.”

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
