LUDLOW — Chief Daniel Valadas and the Ludlow Police Department would like to remind residents to be vigilant of potential relief funding scams surrounding COVID-19.
Earlier this week, the Ludlow Police Department received information concerning a “COVID-19 Benefits Relief Plan” mail solicitation that has been sent to several town residents. This mail solicitation contained a return address that listed the Administrative Office of Ludlow.
Residents can see what the inside of the mail solicitation looks like here, and what the outside of the mail solicitation looks like here.
The Town of Ludlow and the Ludlow Police Department would like to advise all town residents that this mail solicitation is not in any way representative of any town offices. The Ludlow Police believe that these solicitations are for unsecured personal loans under the guise of COVID-19 municipal funding.
“We would like to remind all residents to be cognizant of scams and fraud during these trying times,” said Chief Valadas. “It’s at these vulnerable moments we often see people attempt to take advantage of others. The Town of Ludlow would never send a letter like this so we would like to stress the importance of not responding to these mailings.”
Residents should always remember to verify sources through legitimate independent third-party sites like the Better Business Bureau’s, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office or municipal offices.
If anyone has any questions or feels that they have been victimized, they are encouraged to call the Ludlow Police Department at 413-583-8305. Scams should also be reported to the FTC at www.ftc.gov/complaint.
