For immediate release

BROOKLINE– Library Director Sara Slymon is pleased to announce a new contactless pickup program at the Public Library of Brookline.

Beginning Monday, July 6, contactless pickup will be available at Brookline Village, Coolidge Corner and Putterham library locations. Reservations for materials can be made in advance starting July 1.

Patrons can order items by:

  • Using the online catalog or MLN app
  • Chatting with a librarian through the library website
  • Calling a librarian at 617-730-2370 (extension 3)

Patrons have been able to connect via online chat or call a librarian Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the library has been closed. Starting July 6, those hours will be extended until 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and the Friday hours will remain the same.

Patrons can book an appointment for pickup when they are notified that their order is ready through the contactless pickup website, online chat or by phone. Items will be left in the pickup area and will be labeled with the patron’s last name and the first three letters of their first name. Items will be checked out using the resident’s library card and the receipt will be left inside the bag.

Orders placed at Brookline Village and Coolidge Corner must be picked up at the main entrance. Orders picked up from Putterham must be retrieved at the meeting room entrance.

Residents who use The RIDE as transportation should specify this in the “notes for library staff” section online or by informing a librarian when booking the appointment. Once noted, these items will be available at any time on the booked date.

Appointments will only be available during the established operating hours for each location. All libraries will be closed on Sundays.

Coolidge Corner

  • Monday and Tuesday from 1-9 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Closed Thursdays

When picking up items, residents are asked to do the following:

  • Arrive at the library during the designated appointment time.
  • Wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours. Residents will not be liable for the 72-hour quarantine time. The library book drops re-opened for public use on June 15. Fines for overdue items resumed yesterday.
