AVON — Chief Jeffrey J. Bukunt reports that the Avon Police Department arrested and charged a man who slapped a woman and struck a man in the head with a baseball bat during an argument on Wednesday night.
GERALD L. GREEN, AGE 41, OF BOSTON was charged with:
- Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Two Counts)
- Assault and Battery
GREEN was arraigned today at Stoughton District Court was ordered held on $5,000 bail.
At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, Avon Police were dispatched to the area of Maple Avenue and Cedar Road for a report of a group of people fighting.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to a man who said that he was struck in the head with a baseball bat by GREEN. An ambulance was called and the victim, a 39-year-old Avon man, was transported to a Brockton hospital and then subsequently taken to a Boston hospital. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Through an on-scene investigation, officers determined that GREEN had gotten into an argument with a woman and allegedly slapped her in the face. A short time later, the woman’s husband, the 39-year-old man, approached GREEN with three other men to confront him about the assault. GREEN allegedly used the bat to strike one man in the back and the 39-year-old man in the head.
GREEN was subsequently placed under arrest and the bat was recovered and seized as evidence.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
