During the past several weeks following the murder of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis we’ve been supporting our police clients by working with them to prepare statements condemning the actions that led to the death of Floyd, clarifying their department’s policy about using choke-holds to aid in suspect apprehension, sharing department training around de-escalation techniques and advising transparency about Use of Force policies and reporting procedures, including posting them on department websites.
This is part of JGPR’s overall mission to improve the legitimacy and reputation of its clients through honest interactions, transparency and timely release of information.
This week we worked with the North Reading Police Department to develop an infographic that highlights and details the department’s policies, procedures and training that are relative to the national dialogue. Issues such as police use of force, racial bias in policing and officer training are being tightly scrutinized, because such information and dialog is in the public interest. Police need to be prepared to answer direct questions honestly and make changes where needed.
The infographic is an effective way to take dense documents and highlight the most relevant information that answers key questions from the public in a concise way. The infographic has been shared on social media and is also posted on the North Reading Police Department website.
JGPR is available to take on new police clients for communications support as this crisis unfolds. Contact us now to learn more. No agency or budget is too small, and no police chief is turned away.
