EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Harhen reports that the East Bridgewater Fire Department extinguished a fire inside a large brick building used as a storage facility on Whitman Street Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. Sunday, June 14, the East Bridgewater Fire Department responded to U-Store It, 15 Whitman St., for a report of a fire in the building.

A small fire was located in a vacant part of the building. The Bridgewater Fire Department responded to the scene to assist. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and prevented the fire spreading to other parts of the building.

The initial investigation indicates that the cause of the fire was accidental after an extension cord was wedged under the leg of a couch causing it to catch fire. It is unclear who was using the extension cord. The investigation remains ongoing by the East Bridgewater Fire Department and East Bridgewater Police Department.

No injures were reported.
