BRAINTREE — Chief Mark Dubois reports that a man was arrested and charged after he fled from Braintree officers after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Brockton earlier in the afternoon Friday.
KYLE POLLARD, AGE 28, OF SOUTH BOSTON was charged with:
- Failure to Stop for a Police Officer
- Operating to Endanger
- Operating Without a License
- Speeding
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Braintree Police received a report from Holbrook Police to be on the lookout for a gray Honda with front-end damage that was believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Brockton that left a person seriously injured. Police believed the vehicle was travelling through Holbrook on Route 37 and heading into Braintree.
A short time later, a Braintree officer observed a gray Honda sedan with a shattered windshield and front-end damage on Hancock Street (Route 37). The officer pulled behind the vehicle and activated his lights.
The driver, later identified as POLLARD, accelerated and turned right onto Plain Street and then quickly turned right onto Garden Park to avoid the officer. POLLARD sped approximately 45 miles per hour down Garden Park, a dead end street, and nearly struck a pedestrian that was walking down the side of the road.
Near the end of the street, POLLARD came to an abrupt stop and then got out of the car and fled on foot. The pursuing officer stayed with the passenger in the vehicle as other officers arrived at the scene to search for POLLARD in the woods nearby.
A Braintree Police K9 officer was called to the scene and after multiple warnings, began to search in the woods near where POLLARD was last seen. A short time later, POLLARD was located by the K9. POLLARD did not give himself up and continued to hide in a patch of thick brush and the K9 bit POLLARD during his apprehension.
POLLARD was placed under arrest and was transported by ambulance to South Shore Hospital to be treated for superficial injuries he sustained from the K9. His injuries are non-life threatening.
Officers from Braintree and Brockton questioned the passenger and the man was subsequently released.
POLLARD’S vehicle was towed from the scene and turned over to the Brockton Police as evidence.
POLLARD will be arraigned at a later date.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
