TYNGSBOROUGH — Interim Superintendent Jill Davis is pleased to announce the Class of 2020 Top 10 and Cooperative Education Students of the Year.
The students were announced and recognized at the remotely held Greater Lowell Technical High School Committee meeting on Thursday, May 21.
“The Top 10 students have demonstrated academic and technical excellence and achievement, leadership and service– all qualities we highly value as a school community and work to instill in our students. We’re honored to recognize and celebrate these students and all of their accomplishments over the last four years,” Interim Superintendent Davis said.
Each year, the school recognizes two students from the graduating class who have demonstrated exemplary knowledge and employability skills at their worksite placement. The mission of the school’s Cooperative Education Program is to expand a student’s educational knowledge and experience in a real work environment that directly relates to their technical program of study and career goals. The two Greater Lowell Technical High School (GLTHS) Cooperative Education Students of the Year are Tanya Ou and Andrew Nguyen, both of Lowell.
Nguyen is a senior in the electrical program at GLTHS. He began a co-op in March 2019 at Lowell Central Electric in Lowell, where he has worked on disassembling old lighting fixtures for proper recycling from LED lighting retrofit jobs, assembling light fixtures in preparation for wiring, loading and unloading work trucks with materials and filling material orders for multiple jobs. He is known at Lowell Central Electric as a positive, always smiling employee who is happy to help. Nguyen plans to attend Middlesex Community College this fall.
Ou is a senior in the Early Childhood Education program. She started her co-op in April 2019 at Little Sprouts in Lowell, where she plans to work full time after she graduates. Since starting at Little Sprouts, she has connected well with her students and particularly enjoyed working with infants. The families she works with appreciate the attention to detail she gives each child and her peer teachers value her dedication and work ethic.
