Upcoming LCWD Meetings Will Address Supplemental Water Supply Options

LYNNFIELD –The Lynnfield Center Water District (LCWD) would like to remind residents of seasonal water use restrictions that went into effect on May 1 and will remain in place until Sept. 30.

A Level 2 restriction is in place at this time, meaning outdoor lawn and garden watering is only allowed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout the week.

The Lynnfield Center Water District maintains a year-round watering restriction schedule as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. More information about the restrictions is available online here.

“With many families home on a more consistent basis and warmer weather fast approaching, water consumption throughout the District remains higher than usual,” said Superintendent John Scenna. “We encourage residents to be cognizant of their usage and thank them for adhering to these guidelines over the next few months.”

Varying levels of restriction still allow for outdoor use, just at times when overall capacity on the system is not as high.

Staff will continue to monitor daily water usage and Ipswich River water levels, and make changes to the restrictions if demand begins to approach a supply capacity. Should additional restrictions go into effect, notifications will be published on the LCWD website and signs will be posted in the community.

LCWD continues to explore means in which to improve its infrastructure in order to remain sustainable and explore options to supplement its water supply. The LCWD Annual District Meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday, June 15 at 7 p.m. A location for the meeting will be announced at a later time.

Immediately after, a regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners will be held, at which time Superintendent Scenna and staff from CDM Smith, an engineering consulting firm work with LCWD, will be updating the District on progress it has made on this front and an outlook of possible scenarios for the future.

“LCWD customers will ultimately have to decide and vote to support and fund for a significant capital improvement project,” said Chairman Joseph Maney “We hope to continue to search for solutions, options and costs all while keeping customers informed.”

Superintendent Scenna and the Board of Commissioners are currently working out a plan in which to conduct this meeting in accordance with restrictions still in place on gatherings and social distancing. It will be moderated by Town Moderator Joseph Markey.

Customers with questions or concerns about the restrictions can call 781-334-3901 or email [email protected].
