RAYMOND – A band of familiar faces will line the driveway of the Hannaford Supermarket in town until the end of the week in celebration of the Raymond High School class of 2020.
The signs featuring the senior portraits of the 85 graduating students have lined the driveway of the Freetown Road store since they were put in place on Wednesday, May 13 by the high school’s facilities staff. Each senior will have the opportunity to pick up their sign at the end of the week.
The project was coordinated by Raymond High School Principal Steve Woodward, who got the idea after hearing about a similar project at a Florida high school. Woodward had initially thought about lining up the signs along the driveway of the high school, but chose the Hannaford driveway to increase exposure.
“Graduation is something you look forward to your whole academic life and this class, along with every other graduating class across the country, aren’t able to have a traditional celebration at the moment,” Principal Woodward said. “We felt it was important to do something special for them and encourage the rest of the community to join us in recognizing this important achievement in our students’ lives.”
The signs were created by Raymond resident Cary Chaisson of Allegra Printing.
“We’re incredibly proud of our seniors and want to do everything we can to safely celebrate their achievements during this unique time,” said Superintendent Tina McCoy. “These signs are just one way we’re able to do so, and to let them know we are thinking of them and proud of what they’ve accomplished during their academic career.”
Information on when and where the signs can be picked up will be shared later this week.
An in-person graduation ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 17, but is subject to change based on the state’s guidance on social distancing and large gatherings.
Information about the ceremony will be shared in the weekly Ram Reminders and posted to the school calendar when it becomes available, both of which can be found on the Raymond High School website.
