STONEHAM — Chief Matthew Grafton reports that the Stoneham Fire Department responded after a car crashed into a pond earlier today.
At 2:45 p.m. Stoneham Fire received a report that a single motor vehicle involved in a multi-vehicle crash on I-93 South had gone through a guardrail just prior to the Route 28 overpass, down an embankment and landed on its side, partially submerged in Dark Hollow Pond.
Stoneham Engine 2 and Ladder 1 arrived on scene at approximately 2:52 p.m., and upon arrival found a woman, 59, of Charlestown trapped inside the two-door Mercedes in the pond. She sustained injuries from the crash that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
State police also responded to the scene and assisted Stoneham Fire in extricating the woman from the vehicle. No hydraulic tools were needed, and the woman was transported by Action Ambulance to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
