IPSWICH — Fire Chief Andy Theriault reports that the Ipswich Fire Department extinguished two, one-alarm fires at two multi-family residential homes on Wednesday and Thursday.

No one was injured in either incident.

“Our firefighters and mutual aid partners did a tremendous job of containing both fires and minimizing damage to the homes,” Chief Theriault said. “Thankfully no one was injured in either incident, and we were able to swiftly and effectively extinguish each fire.”

The Ipswich Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a multi-family home at 34 Mitchell Road at 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Residents had evacuated the building prior to the arrival of first responders, and firefighters found light smoke showing from the attic of the building upon arrival.

No one was injured in the fire, and firefighters aggressively attacked the flames. The fire was extinguished by approximately 9:30 p.m.

The Rowley Fire Department provided mutual aid on scene as the rapid intervention team, and the Essex, Hamilton and Topsfield Fire Departments provided station coverage during the incident.

The fire ultimately caused approximately $20,000 in fire, heat, smoke and water damage, and residents relocated for the night until the home could be cleaned and repaired.

At 6:13 a.m. on Thursday, Ipswich Fire also responded to 4 Winter St. for a report of a fire at a multi-family home. All residents in the building had evacuated prior to first responders arriving at the scene, and upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke showing and fire visible from the rear end of the home that was overlapping onto the roof.

Firefighters were able to aggressively attack and extinguish the fire by approximately 7 a.m. No one was injured in the fire.

Mutual aid was provided by the Essex, Hamilton and Topsfield Fire Departments at the scene, and the Manchester, Rowley and Wenham Fire Departments provided coverage at the Ipswich Fire Station during the incident.

The residence is not habitable as a result of the fire, and it is estimated that approximately $100,000 in damage was done by fire, heat, smoke and water damage.

Both fires have been deemed accidental by the Ipswich Fire Department, and the cause of each fire remains under investigation by the Ipswich Fire Department.
