MERRIMAC — Chief Larry Fisher reports that the Merrimac Fire Department responded to a structure fire Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, April 7, Merrimac Firefighters were dispatched to 2 Mechanic St. for a reported structure fire at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, Merrimac firefighters found heavy flames and smoke outside of the home. First responders worked aggressively to put out the fire and were assisted by members of the Amesbury Fire Department at the scene after calling for a one-alarm response.

The fire was deemed under control just before 5 p.m. No one was injured.

The West Newbury and Newton, NH Fire Departments provided mutual aid station coverage while crews fought the structure fire. While providing coverage, those members responded to a separate report of a brush fire on Winter Street in town, where 1/10 of an acre was burned.

The fire remains under investigation by Merrimac Fire Chief Larry S. Fisher, the Merrimac Police Department, the Massachusetts Fire Marshal’s Office and the State Police.
