Griffith will replace current principal David Foster, starting July 1, 2020. Griffith currently works as the principal for the Pembroke Hill School in Pembroke, where she oversaw the consolidation of two elementary schools, established an alternative placement program and created SAU Math Cohorts K-12, which implemented the a new math program and put in place quarterly, day long professional development seminars.
“Susan has demonstrated that she is a skilled leader, with the ability to lead effectively and facilitate meaningful change,” said Newfields School Board Chair Tom Hayward. “We’re thrilled that she will be joining the Newfields Elementary School team, and look forward to the insight and experience she will bring to this role.”
While working at Pembroke Hill School, Griffith supported literacy reform and implemented the transition to a new literacy collaborative model, put in place a Project Lead the Way launch program, revitalized math instruction and initiated school wide reform with the implementation of responsive classroom teaching practices. She also worked to promote professional development opportunities and growth among faculty, bolstered school pride through various initiatives and created events to provide opportunities for parents to become more involved.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have this opportunity to serve as the principal of Newfields Elementary School,” Griffith said. “Newfields has a wonderful reputation as a close knit town with a school community dedicated to its students and providing them with an exemplary education. I’m look forward to getting to know the students, faculty and staff there, and to working together to continue that great work.”
Griffith also worked in various roles at Phillips Exeter Academy from 2013-2015, including in admissions, as a physical education teacher, men’s volleyball coach and dorm affiliate. She has additionally worked as a principal and assistant principal at Morgan Elementary School in Holyoke, Massachusetts, as an assistant principal at Hunter’s Creek Elementary in Houston, Texas and an administrator in training and first grade teacher/athletic coach at Second Baptist School in Houston, Texas.
She is certified in school administration for K-6 in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Texas, and is also a public speaker on parenting and education. Griffith is additionally a member of leadership for the Seacoast/Exeter YMCA and a coach for local Parks & Recreation.
Principal Foster is retiring after serving for three years as the principal at Newfields Elementary School.
