NAHANT — Town Administrator Tony Barletta and Superintendent Tony Pierantozzi report that all students in Nahant can receive free lunches during the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Orders can be placed online here and need to be submitted by Thursday at noon for the coming week.
Lunches are available on all days when school was scheduled. Due to a previously scheduled day off for the district, lunch will not be available on Friday, April 10.
Lunches can be picked up Monday through Friday from 11-11:15 a.m. at Door 3 at the Johnson School, 290 Castle Road.
Those who pick up the lunches are reminded to practicing social distancing — keeping at least six feet between themselves and others at all times — as a precaution.
Nahant Public Schools will be participating in remote learning while the buildings are closed until at least May 4. Gov. Charlie Baker announced the extended statewide closure of schools through the month of April throughout the Commonwealth last week in order to limit the potential spread of COVID-19.
COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, has moved the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a global pandemic. President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency and Governor Charlie Baker earlier this month declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts.
