TYNGSBOROUGH — Interim Superintendent Jill Davis announces that Greater Lowell Technical School donated supplies including gowns, masks and gloves to several area health and long term care facilities in light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.
“Community partners coming together to help each other through a very difficult time is so important and that is what Greater Lowell Tech is all about,” Interim Superintendent Davis said. “We were fortunate enough because of the technical programs we offer to have masks, gloves and other much needed medical supplies that we could donate to area health and long term care providers, including organizations we partner with regularly through our career technical education programs. We’re happy to be able to give back to those that have long supported our students’ learning.”
On Monday, March 23, the school donated 500 surgical masks (including N95 masks), 500 gowns, 500 booties, several thousand pairs of gloves, 500 surgical hair nets, 500 hospital bed coverings, more than 1,000 thermometer covers and dozens of cases of disinfectant wipes to organizations including Belvidere Healthcare Center, Trinity EMS, Lowell General Hospital, D’Youville Life & Wellness Community, Fair Haven Healthcare Center and Lowell Area Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
“Our medical supply inventory has always been more than adequate to meet the needs of our residents and staff, but with the current situation at hand, supplies have been harder to come by,” said Diane Tessier-Efstathiou, administrator at Belvidere Healthcare Center said. “The supplies we were invited to come pick up on Monday morning at Greater Lowell Tech will play an integral role in helping our staff continue to safely care for our residents. We look forward to a continued relationship as a host site for the C.N.A. students of GLTHS.”
The donations were made possible by Greater Lowell Tech administrators, faculty and staff who organized and packaged the donations for pickup.
“A special thanks to everyone who helped us prepare these supplies for donation,” Interim Superintendent Davis said. “In particular, I’d like to recognize the efforts of Interim Assistant Superintendent-Principal Michael Barton and the custodial staff, led by Director of Plant Services Mark Byrne, who gathered and packed up all the materials on a Saturday as well as Senior Assistant-Principal Jamie Costa and Dean of Students Ron Vercellone, who helped with loading during pickup.”
