BURLINGTON — Library Director Michael Wick announces that the Burlington Library has several resources available to patrons online, which they are encouraged to access while the library is closed for precautionary reasons due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Stay-At-Home Library Goes Live
The Burlington Public Library has created a stay-at-home library to make many of the library’s resources available to members right from their homes. Patrons can now access resources like ebooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines, music and graphic novels via OverDrive and Hoopla.
Additional resources, like access to the Boston Globe, Ancestry.com, Rocket Languages and more are also available online. To see a full list of offerings, click here.
Register for a Card Online
The library’s online resources are free for members, and those who aren’t already members can register for a library card online. Burlington residents can fill out a form, which is located midway down this page, and submit it online.
Virtual Storytimes
Beginning Tuesday, March 24, the library will host virtual storytimes via Facebook Live.
Storytimes will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week at 10:30 a.m.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the library open?
No, the library is currently closed to public for the indefinite future.
What about my library materials?
The BPL has extended due dates, expiration dates for holds, and expiration dates for library cards so that accounts will not be impacted by the closure.
Can I return my library materials now?
While book drops are open, patrons are asked not to return materials unless they absolutely have to. There will be no penalties for late returns, and residents are asked to adhere to the social distancing protocols recommended by public health officials.
Can I speak to a librarian?
Library staff are checking voicemail periodically, but it’s easiest for patrons to email a librarian. Our Reference (ref@burlingtonpl.org), Young Adult (nmonk@burlingtonpl.org) Children’s (ahoguelavallee@burlingtonpl.org), and Administrative (mwick@burlington.org) departments are all available by email.
We miss the library, when will it reopen?
Believe us, patrons are the greatest part of being a librarian and we miss you too! We don’t have a date for reopening yet, but it will be communicated once it’s decided.
