EAST BRIDGEWATER — Town Administrator Brian S. Noble and the Board of Selectmen would like to inform residents and business owners that, in the effort to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), businesses regarded as “non-essential” must end all in-person operation, following an emergency order issued by Governor Charlie Baker Monday.

Effective Tuesday, March 24 at noon, companies that do not provide essential services related to COVID-19 must close all facilities to employees and customers. This order will remain in effect until April 7 at noon.

A full list of designated organizations that provide essential services and workforces related to COVID-19 has been outlined by the state, and these organizations may continue to operate their brick-and-mortar facilities during this two-week period.

Essential COVID-19 services include:

  • Health Care & Public Health
  • Law Enforcement, Public Safety & First Responders
  • Food & Agriculture
  • Critical Manufacturing, Chemical Manufacturing & Hazardous Materials
  • Transportation
  • Energy, Water & Wastewater organizations, and Public Works
  • Communications and Information Technology
  • Financial Services
  • Defense Industry Base
  • News Media
  • Other Designated Community Based Essential Function & Government Operations

Local businesses in industries not included in the above list are encouraged to continue operations remotely, if possible.

Grocery stores, gas stations and healthcare providers will remain open for business. Restaurants may remain operational for delivery or takeout operations and should continue to follow social distancing protocols. Takeout and delivery patrons are urged to call ahead or place their orders online with restaurants and eateries in order to minimize face-to-face interaction and streamline the pickup process.

Residents are encouraged to directly contact a business in East Bridgewater if they are unsure if that business is open. While out shopping, residents are encouraged to abide by social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and avoid large groups of people.

The full list of essential services is based on federal guidance, but has been amended to reflect the state’s unique economy. An Essential Service Designation Request form is available for company’s who would like to request the services of their business to be designated as essential during this time.

The Town announced last week restricted access to all Town of East Bridgewater offices until April 7. Many Town employees are working from home in an effort to continue to provide services. Residents are encouraged to visit the Town’s website for access to permits or other administrative services. Many forms and other documents are also available online. Residents are asked to call or email specific offices with questions or specific Town business.

East Bridgewater Police and Fire personnel are on duty and are ready and able to respond to emergencies. The Department of Public Works continues to provide service to the Town. The Transfer Station remains closed at this time. The Senior Center is providing meals on wheels, emergency transportation and outreach to East Bridgewater’s senior population.

The East Bridgewater Board of Health is in contact with Federal and State officials multiple times per day to stay up to date on the situation and will provide updates to the community as they become available.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Town’s website for updates.
