FAIRFIELD — Chief Christopher Lyddy, on behalf of the Fairfield Police Department, would like to share the following message with the residents of Fairfield:
“To our residents,
As the world continues to deal with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the Fairfield Police Department has a number of important updates to provide to the members of our community.
First and foremost, our top priority will remain ensuring the safety of each and every Fairfield resident. We are also doing everything in our power to deal with your needs as they relate to the COVID-19 virus.
This task is being shared by all of Fairfield’s public safety and municipal agencies. We will continue to provide you with constant updates as new information becomes available.
A state of emergency was declared in Fairfield on Monday, March 16, following the activation of our Town’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC streamlines the COVID-19 response effort and ensures the continued delivery of services to residents. The EOC will remain operational until further notice.
Town buildings, schools, playgrounds, beaches, libraries and recreation areas remain closed until further notice. Residents are still encouraged to go outside for exercise, walks or even just to get fresh air.
The Fairfield Police Department will of course remain open during the entire crisis, however the lobby of the police station will have limited public access during this time. We are encouraging whenever possible that residents call the station rather than visit us in person. The department’s business line is 203-254-4800.
All walk-in services, such as fingerprinting, records requests, non-violent past offenses, medication drop-off, etc. are suspended until further notice.
As always, please dial 911 in the case of an emergency.
For updates from the Town of Fairfield on COVID-19 matters, please visit www.fairfieldct.org or www.fpdct.com/coronavirus.
The Fairfield Police Department encourages you all to practice and promote the concept of physical distancing, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes as avoiding crowds or large gatherings and maintaining a distance of approximately six feet or more from others when possible. We also encourage frequent hand-washing and disinfecting of commonly-used surfaces such as desks, phones and doorknobs.
We would also like to talk to you about our new campaign to support local restaurants while they are only able to provide takeout and delivery services. Each day, members of the Fairfield Police Department will get lunch or dinner from a different restaurant in Fairfield as part of the department’s new “Law and Order…To Go” campaign.
We encourage everyone to order a meal to pick up or be delivered from your favorite restaurant and share the hashtag #LawandOrderToGoFairfield with a picture of you and your takeout containers. This will show some support for our local businesses, while still adhering to the practice of physical distancing.
In closing, please be assured that despite the ongoing closures to Town buildings and changes to our everyday lives, the Fairfield Police Department will be ready to assist each and every member of the community no matter what their needs may be. We thank all residents, business owners and community members for their continued cooperation during this difficult time. We are proud to protect and serve you, and as long as we all stay up-to-date on the most current guidelines and show kindness to one another we will come through this crisis stronger than we were before.
Sincerely,
Chief Christopher Lyddy, on behalf of the men and women of the Fairfield Police Department”
