BRAINTREE — In an effort to expand and continue the practice of social distancing in Braintree, Mayor Charles C. Kokoros and the Braintree Board of Health announce that an emergency order has been issued for all personal care businesses in town to close by the end of the day Friday, March 20, 2020.

Personal care businesses, include but are not limited to:

  • Hair salons
  • Barbershops
  • Nail salons
  • Day spas
  • Massage and body work establishments
  • Tattoo, piercing and body art establishments
  • Aesthetics establishments
  • Tanning salons
  • Gyms and fitness centers

The order will go into effect at 11:59 p.m., Friday, March 20.

With guidance from the Town’s public health officials, along with information received from state, federal and global public health agencies, the Town has been assessing activities, businesses and service sectors that pose the greatest risk of spreading the novel coronavirus during this health crisis. Community members and business owners should anticipate further measures in the near future in addition to those announced today.

“This order will impact many businesses in our community and we did not come to this decision lightly. Everyone has a part to play in stopping the spread of this deadly disease,” Mayor Kokoros said. “Given the latest guidance and information, that COVID-19 is highly contagious and easily spread among people, we feel it is in the best interests of everyone’s health and safety to have these businesses close temporarily while social distancing efforts are ongoing.”

In an effort to help those in need during this public health emergency Mayor Kokoros has established the Braintree Community Task Force. For more information on the Task Force or how to offer assistance to those impacted by COVID-19, please contact Kate Naughton, Services Coordinator, at 781-794-8026 or [email protected].

This Emergency Order shall remain in effect until notice is given, pursuant to the Board of Health’s judgment, that the Public Health Emergency no longer exists.
