EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Harhen reports two men were rescued from Robbins Pond on Sunday.
Just before 4 p.m., an East Bridgewater police officer notified the Fire Department of a person who had flipped his canoe and was in the water in Robbins Pond off Bixby Drive. The 29-year-old East Bridgewater man was wearing a life preserver and was brought to shore by a kayaker.
The man, who lived nearby, changed into dry clothes and returned to be evaluated by EMS at the scene.
While firefighters prepared to launch their boat to retrieve the overturned canoe, a 24-year-old Bridgewater man flipped his kayak after attempting to retrieve the canoe and fell into the water. The man was not wearing a life preserver at the time.
Captain/Paramedic Jeffrey Kelley and Firefighter/Paramedic Andrew Wilds rescued the man within five minutes. After being brought to shore, the man was transported by the East Bridgewater Ambulance to Brockton Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
The East Bridgewater Fire Department boat crew was able to retrieve both the canoe and the kayak. Crews left the scene an hour after arriving.
