BOXBOROUGH – Boxborough Police Chief Warren B. Ryder today announced his department is suspending walk-in services to help protect staff and public health as the Covid-19 virus continues to spread.
Effective immediately and until further notice, Boxborough Police Department at 520 Massachusetts Avenue is suspending walk-in services, including fingerprinting, VIN checks, records requests, non-violent past offenses, medication drop-off, and other non-emergency services.
Police are asking residents to call or email for any records requests:
Records Access Officer:
Lieutenant Warren J. O’Brien
978-264-1742
“To limit the spread of the virus and keep both our staff and the public safe, we ask that individuals call by telephone, rather than come to the police station,” said Ryder. “The front door to the police station shall be locked at all times and the lobby can only be accessed in a true emergency. If you must come to the police station, please use the video intercom system to the left of the front door. The dispatcher on-duty will speak with you and determine the best way to assist you.”
This is a temporary measure. Officials said they do not know how long these restrictions will be in place.
If residents have a non-emergency matter, the dispatcher will gather contact information and an officer will contact you via telephone. Crimes in progress (such as violence, assaults, etc.) should continue to be reported via 9-1-1 and officers will respond as they ordinarily would.
If a Boxborough Police officer does respond to a call for service, he/she has been instructed to maintain ‘social distancing’ to maintain their and the caller’s health safety. The officers will ask residents to do the same, which entails keeping separated by approximately 6 feet. Officers have also been instructed not shake hands or make any other personal contact unless absolutely necessary to avoid transmitting the virus.
The Boxborough Police Department is on-duty, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. These temporary measures will be reviewed on a continuous basis. When changes are necessary, they will be communicated to the public.
