BLACKSTONE — Chief Gregory Gilmore is pleased to report that the Blackstone Police Department recently conducted alcohol compliance checks at local businesses throughout town and all establishments passed.
To carry out the compliance checks, Blackstone Police deployed an undercover youth volunteer who attempted to make a purchase at each liquor establishment.
All businesses passed the compliance check by asking the volunteer for identification and denying the purchase when the volunteer could not present identification that showed them to be of legal age.
The purpose of the compliance checks is to ensure that local businesses and restaurants who hold liquor licenses and their employees are being vigilant by requesting identification prior to any sale, and not providing alcohol to minors.
“Our department engages in these enforcement efforts on a regular basis,” Chief Gilmore said. “We are pleased to see that our message seems to be getting through to local establishments that strict enforcement of these regulations is a must.”
