BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno is pleased to announce that the Bedford Police Department will be raising money and awareness for autism to coincide with National Autism Awareness Month next month.

The Bedford Police Officers Association, in partnership with Riggio Auto Repair, will be selling a limited number of special Bedford Police autism awareness patches during the month of April.

The patches are $20 each, and all of the proceeds from the patch sales will go directly to the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism.

Autism patches will be available at Riggio Auto Repair, 180 Great Road, and at the Bedford Police Department, 2 Mudge Way. Patches will be sold for cash only, and receipts will be available upon request.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Flutie Foundation to raise money for autism awareness,” Chief Bongiorno said. “Autism touches the lives of so many people in our community and beyond, and we encourage everyone to purchase one of these patches to help support this worthy cause.”

Residents who have purchased the patches are urged to take pictures of them, especially if they travel outside of town, and share them on social media. Residents can tag the Bedford Police Department on Facebook and Twitter, @bedfordpd.

“Seeing pictures of where all the patches have traveled to is a fun way to get more people interested and involved in this special project,” Officer Kristen Dineen said.

Some officers from the Bedford Police Department will also be wearing specially designed autism patches to raise awareness during the month of April.

For more information on the project, contact Dineen at the Bedford Police Department at 781-570-1567 or [email protected].
