WHAT:
Residents are invited to attend public meetings about the development of a Veterans Memorial Park. Meeting discussions will include a review of the existing site, requirements for the park and possible alternate locations for a park.
The current location at Monument Square is in need of repairs and updates in order to make the site suitable for public ceremonies.
The existing Honor Roll, which acknowledges Arlington residents who have served in the military, was dedicated in 1999. A new Honor Roll list will include room for the almost 11,000 Arlington veterans — including 3,000 names that need to be added — who have served, as well as space where names can be added in the future.
Additionally, a memorial for each branch of service, as well as tributes to POW/MIA, Medal of Honor recipients and Gold Star families need to be incorporated.
