MEDWAY — Principal Craig Juelis is pleased to announce that several seventh and eighth grade students at Medway Middle School have been accepted into the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) Central District band and chorus groups.
The selected students will participate in the annual MMEA Central District Junior Festival, along with students from 72 other schools in Central Massachusetts, on May 2 at Franklin High School.
Four Medway band students and five chorus students were selected. They include:
Band
Abby Brown, trumpet; Will George, clarinet; Alex Montana, clarinet; and Aadi Aggarwal, trombone.
Chorus
Julia Akinkuoye, Jaina Campbell, Macie Hoben, Megan Keavany and Ella Vargas.
As part of the audition process for the Central District festival, students needed to prepare a solo to perform to showcase their abilities. Medway Middle School students auditioned alongside other students in the Central District on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Grafton High School.
A total of 19 band and chorus students from Medway auditioned, under the guidance of Medway Middle School band director Doug Dufresne and chorus director Nori von Jena.
“We are extremely proud of every student who auditioned, for putting themselves out there and taking the time to prepare over the last three to four months,” Dufresne said. “It was a positive learning experience for all, and being chosen for Junior Districts is a major accomplishment considering the competition with so many other schools. We look forward to seeing these nine students perform at the festival.”
Anyone who would like to attend the MMEA Central District festival can contact Dufresne at ddufresne@medwayschools.org.
