CANTON — Superintendent Jill Rossetti is pleased to share that the Blue Hills Regional Technical School Ice Hockey Team will participate in the Hockey Fights Cancer fundraiser this weekend and invites the community to attend.

WHEN:

Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3:55 p.m.

WHERE:

The Canton Ice House, 65 North St.

WHAT:

Blue Hills Regional Technical School’s varsity hockey team will take on Bellingham at the third annual Hockey Fights Cancer event. This is the first year Blue Hills will participate in the event.

Hockey Fights Cancer was created to honor Reo Todesca, the mother of Xaverian Hockey assistant coach Paul Todesca Jr., who was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2017 and passed away in December 2017. Each Hockey Fights Cancer game is a memorial tribute to her and all others who have fought cancer.

The Reo Todesca Foundation makes donations to help fund cancer research programs that will provide patients and families with prevention, screening, treatments and support so that more lives will be saved with the goal to “Conquer Cancer.”

In conjunction with the event, Paul Todesca Jr., Xaverian assistant hockey coach and chairman of Reo’s Foundation, will talk with Blue Hills student-athletes this week about his mother’s battle with cancer and his family’s decision to honor her through Hockey Fights Cancer and the foundation.

The schedule for Saturday’s Hockey Fights Cancer is as follows:

  • Westwood vs. Norwood at 1:50 p.m.
  • Blue Hills vs. Bellingham at 3:55 p.m.
  • Xaverian vs. Framingham at 6 p.m.

T-shirts will be given out before each game to fans giving a donation of at least $10. In addition, there will be a silent auction, chuck-a-puck, raffles and more.

The Blue Hills hockey team would like to thank Arrow Sports Group for their donation of jerseys and socks for all members of the varsity and junior varsity hockey teams, as well as 150 Blue Hills logo t-shirts to be given to fans who attend the game.

All proceeds from the night will be donated to the American Cancer Society and The Reo Todesca Memorial Foundation.

About the Reo Todesca Foundation:

The Reo Todesca Memorial Foundation was started in 2018 by Paul Sr., Paul Jr. and Angelo to honor her memory. Since its formation, the foundation has donated directly to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to support the much needed lung cancer research. In the past two years, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised over $50,000 which goes toward cancer research programs.
