WESTPORT –Superintendent Gary Reese is pleased to announce that Westport Junior/Senior High School will host their annual career fair for students next week.
WHEN:
Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
WHERE:
Westport Junior/Senior High School Gymnasium, 19 Main Rd.
WHAT:
The Westport Junior/Senior High School (WJSHS) Career Fair is designed to give upperclassmen the opportunity to learn more about career fields and the opportunities available to them after graduation, while also allowing underclassmen to begin gathering information to plan their high school and future career paths.
This year’s fair is the fourth consecutive year the fair has taken place and the number of participating businesses has continued to grow each year. This year’s fair will feature 48 businesses.
Numerous professionals will be present and available to speak with students about their careers, including representatives in nursing, civil engineering, clinical psychology, biology, law enforcement, community planning, mechanical engineering, finance, real estate, chemistry, hospitality, law, accounting, environmental science, neuropsychology, cosmetology, business, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, music, athletic coaching, dental, cancer research and education.
Each table will host a set of activities and information sessions. The fair will also feature a questionnaire to measure students’ interest and their thoughts on any career fields that may not have been represented at the fair.
Eighth through 11th grade attendance is mandatory. Seniors are encouraged, but not required, to attend.
“We encourage all students to participate in our annual career fair,” said guidance counselor Leslie Ruel. “The fair will benefit each student by exposing them to an array of possible career fields and industries that they may be interested in pursuing. It is a great opportunity for our students to hand out their resumes and network with area professionals.”
The career fair was organized by the WJSHS Guidance Department and Tina Shorette of MassHire Youth Connections in Fall River. School officials would like to thank MassHire Youth Connections for their assistance in recruiting businesses to attend.
