Media Information for Coverage of Somerset Fire Chief Scott Jepson’s Wake and Funeral Services
SOMERSET — Deputy Fire Chief Jamison Barros would like to provide an update on the visiting hours and funeral services for media members planning to cover the services for Somerset Fire Chief Scott Jepson.
There will be two services: A wake and visiting hours on Wednesday, Jan. 8, and funeral Mass on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Media members are invited to attend both events and, out of respect for those in attendance, are asked to adhere to the following guidelines, staging and parking information:
Wake and Visiting Hours:
Wednesday, public visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. at the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset.
Media members are asked to park their vehicles in the parking lot of 885 Buffinton St., across the street from the funeral home. The parking lot will also serve as the staging area for media members.
Between 5-6 p.m., Deputy Chief Barros will walk over to address the media.
Funeral Mass:
The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. at Saint Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset.
Media members are asked to park on the side of Luther Avenue, east of County Street, near Somerset Federal Credit Union, 740 County St.
Staging will be on the lawn to the right of the church, near Luther Avenue.
Out of respect for the family’s wishes, no media members will be allowed in the church during the Mass service. Additionally, no fire department members will be addressing the media on Thursday during the service.
Following the funeral service, a procession will leave the church and head toward Nathan Slade Cemetery.
The procession will travel west on Luther Avenue, turn right onto Prospect Street, turn right onto Buffinton Street, turn right onto County Street, turn right onto Reed Street, right onto Prospect Street, right onto Arruda Avenue and into Nathan Slade Cemetery.
Burial:
The burial service is private for family members, friends and the Somerset Fire Department only.
Media members are respectfully asked to not attend the burial.
