Town of Boxborough Mourns Death of Longtime Town Employee Robert ‘Bo’ Sokolowski
BOXBOROUGH — Police Chief Warren Ryder and Town Administrator Ryan Ferrara regret to announce the passing of longtime Department of Public Works and Fire Department employee Robert “Bo” Sokolowski.
At approximately 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, after Sokolowski did not report to work, DPW Director Ed Kukkula initiated a wellness check. Sokolowski was soon after found unresponsive in his home by members of the Boxborough Police Department and is believed to have died in his sleep of natural causes. He was 59-years-old.
Town Administrator Ferrara has requested that all town flags be flown at half-staff in Sokolowski’s honor beginning on Monday, Jan. 6.
Sokolowski began working for the Town of Boxborough in 1988 as a truck driver/laborer for the DPW, and later that same year joined the Boxborough Fire Department as a per-diem firefighter.
Sokolowski was well known to Boxborough residents as a dedicated first responder and the caretaker at the town transfer station. At the transfer station, he held a particular place of affection from the dogs in town who he generously provided biscuits to.
“Bo was the essence of a team player who consistently supported his co-workers and neighbors,” Town Administrator Ferrara said. “His selfless commitment to the community was celebrated this past June, when he was named Boxborough’s ‘Golden Fife’ award winner. He was an integral part of the Boxborough community and will be greatly missed by his colleagues and friends.”
