Westport Community Schools to Host 9th Grade Orientation Night for Students and Parents on Jan. 21
Latest on Westport Middle-High School Building Project to be Discussed
WESTPORT – Superintendent Gary Reese is pleased to announce that Westport Community Schools will be hosting a 9th Grade Orientation Night for students and parents next month.
“We hope to see a large turnout of students, who will be entering the 9th grade this upcoming school year, and their families, to give them a thorough understanding of the high-quality education and in-depth learning experiences Westport High School has to offer,” Superintendent Reese said. “In addition to our strong academic offerings, which provide opportunities for advanced courses and internship programs, WHS also has a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and competitive athletics programs. We hope to showcase these programs and more at the open house in January.”
WHEN:
Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 6-7:30 p.m.
WHERE:
Wesport Junior & Senior High School, 19 Main Road, Westport
The event will take place in the auditorium and cafeteria, and will include a tour of high school classrooms and learning spaces.
WHAT:
The orientation event is for incoming 9th graders and their families. Attendees do not need to be residents of Westport.
The evening will begin with an informational session where academics, activities and athletics will be discussed. An update on the latest information about the Westport Middle-High School Building Project will also be detailed.
“These students will be in the brand-new high school building to start their sophomore year in the fall of 2021,” Superintendent Reese said. “It is certainly an exciting time to be attending Westport Community Schools and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead in our fully modernized, state-of-the-art new school for grades 5-12 once it’s complete.”
During the discussion session, a panel of alumni will speak about why they attended WHS and what valuable life lessons they learned.
Families and students will then move to the cafeteria where several informational booths will be set up. These booths will be led by students and staff and will include all of the academic departments, a variety of interactive activities, representatives from various booster groups and members of Westport Educational Foundation.
The evening will wrap up with a tour of the high school.
Light refreshments will be served.
All students are asked to be accompanied by at least one adult family member or guardian.
“The district has offered orientation nights in the past, but this one will be a lot more in-depth and informative with several information booths and activities,” Superintendent Reese said. “We truly want to give our incoming freshmen and their families a thorough view and understanding of all of the great opportunities our school has to offer.”
