Nahant Police Close to Reaching Fundraising Goal to Donate to Cops for Kids with Cancer
NPD Needs $500 to Reach $5,000 Goal
NAHANT — Chief Robert Dwyer is pleased to announce that the Nahant Police Department is close to reaching its goal of raising $5,000 for the charity Cops for Kids with Cancer and has a limited number of t-shirts available to help the cause.
Throughout the months of November and December, the Nahant Police Department lifted its no facial hair policy in exchange for donations to the fundraising effort. In addition, the department is selling t-shirts with an image of the department patch on the front sporting a black beard.
The back of the shirt shows a No Shave logo with several local sponsors. The sponsors include the Nahant Fire Department Union, Swampscott Police and Fire Departments Unions, Tides Restaurant, Nahant Fish and Lobster, Coastal Heritage Bank, Seaside Pizza, Seaside Variety, K9 Edge and the Oceanview.
So far, $4,500 has been raised, with $500 more needed for the department to reach its goal.
“We are hopeful that we will be able to reach the goal of raising $5,000 before the end of the year,” Chief Dwyer said. “This is the third year our officers are raising money for Cops for Kids with Cancer and I can’t think of a better organization to support and donate to. We thank those who have already made generous donations and we are confident that our goal will be met in the coming days.”
In 2016, Cops for Kids with Cancer donated $5,000 to support Nahant’s own Mila Martineau, a then-infant, who was suffering from a rare form of cancer.
Since 2017, Nahant Police has been raising money for Cops for Kids with Cancer through it’s No Shave November initiatives and has raised approximately $13,000 so far.
“It was heartwarming to see the community come together for such a great cause,” said Officer Matt Morneau, “After the t-shirts got delivered, there was a line out the door to purchase them.”
There are approximately 10 t-shirts left available to be purchased at $20 apiece. Those who would like to purchase a shirt should call the Nahant Police Department at 781-581-1212 to inquire about availability.
In addition, checks can be made out to the “Nahant Police Association” or you can donate directly by going to https://copsforkidswithcancer.org/.
