Sudbury Police Arrest Two as Part of Investigation into Local Scam

SUDBURY – Chief Scott Nix reports that Sudbury Police arrested two people on Thursday, Dec. 19 as part of an ongoing investigation into a local scam.

BRIANNE SEXTON, AGE 40, OF HAMPTON, N.H. was charged with:

  • Conspiracy
  • Forgery
  • Attempt to Commit a Crime

ALFRED SCAMMAN, AGE 42, OF HAMPTON, N.H. was charged with:

  • Conspiracy
  • Attempt to Commit a Crime

Through their investigation, Sudbury Police determined that SEXTON allegedly used a false name and false pretenses to request financial assistance from a local religious charitable organization. SEXTON allegedly attempted to obtain an amount of money in excess of $1,200, which was to be sent to SCAMMAN, who SEXTON had misrepresented to be her landlord.

SCAMMAN was arrested at a local business on Boston Post Road where a meet-up had been arranged. SEXTON was arrested in Wayland a short distance down the road with the assistance of the Wayland Police Department.

The Sudbury Police Department believes SEXTON and SCAMMAN may be involved in other successful or attempted scams in the area and asks anyone who feels that the duo may have attempted a theft in their community to call their local police department.

“The holiday season is a popular time of year for scams, directed at both individuals and organizations,” Chief Nix said. “We ask that all organizations and residents remain vigilant and to call their local police department if they suspect they may have been a victim of a scam.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.

Both suspects were arraigned in Framingham District Court on Thursday, Dec. 19. SEXTON was issued $100 bail and ordered to stay away from the organization and have no contact with witnesses. SCAMMAN was released on personal recognizance with conditions to stay away from the organization and have no contact with witnesses.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
