Essex Tech Receives Grant Funding to Support Adult Advanced Manufacturing Training Program
DANVERS — Superintendent Heidi Riccio is pleased to announce that Essex Tech has been awarded grant funding from the state and General Electric to support adult advanced manufacturing programming.
General Electric and the Baker-Polito Administration have awarded the school funding for the next offering of a 300 hour advanced manufacturing course through the school’s NightHawks Adult Education Program, and while final figures are still being calculated and are dependent on enrollment, administrators estimate grant funding will come to approximately $60,000. The funding from both General Electric and the Baker-Polito Administration was announced during a ceremony at the Lynn Vocational Technical Institute in Lynn on Nov. 21.
The advanced manufacturing course will begin on Jan. 18.
The funding is also part of the Baker-Polito Administration’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Program grants, announced on Tuesday, Dec. 10 in an effort to support programs that will train students for successful careers in the industry and also to cultivate more skilled employees for companies actively seeking workers in the field.
“Studying advanced manufacturing will give those who take this course the necessary training and skill set to qualify for steady, well paying careers with numerous companies in our area, that are looking for employees now,” Superintendent Riccio said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for local adults to access a new, incredibly promising career, and we are thrilled to be able to offer this program once again this January.”
The course will teach students the basics of manual machining and progress to advanced multi-axis CNC programming, setup and operation. Students in the course will be trained to use the latest technology, learn the layout process and the necessary setup and procedures to operate equipment including CNC lathes, CNC milling and turning machines and G-Coding.
Students will additionally learn Blueprint Reading, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Industry Math, Metrology, Inspection, Mastercam and Solidworks.
The program will also include resume preparation and job placement assistance, including tours of local manufacturing companies.
Classes for the course will be held at Essex Tech’s Maple Street campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students that complete the course will have the opportunity to earn National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) industry credentials and Occupational Safety and Health Administration Certification.
A maximum of 22 students will be accepted in the course, and tuition is $3,500.
Those interested in taking the course can register through Essex Tech’s NightHawks Adult Education Program by clicking here, or by contacting the MassHire North Shore Career Center in Salem at 978-825-7200.
