Medway High School Tri-M Music Honor Society Holds Annual Coffee House Concert

MEDWAY –Superintendent Armand Pires and Medway High School Principal Dr. John Murray are pleased to share that the Medway Tri-M Music Honor Society recently held its annual Coffee House concert.

On Friday, Dec. 6, Tri-M hosted a casual concert in the Medway High School cafeteria, which featured Medway High School students showcasing their musical talents. Alongside other high school students, eight Tri-M members were performers in the concert.

A coffee house concert refers to a performance style, usually held in coffee shops, where refreshments are sold alongside musical performances. Tri-M’s booster organization, Medway Friends of Performing Arts, organized the sale of pizza, hot chocolate and other light snacks during the concert. All 24 Medway Tri-M members worked at the event as a part of their service duty to the organization.

Proceeds from the ticket and food sales go to the Medway Tri-M chapter and are used to support the annual induction ceremony and to defray the costs of the chapter’s biennial music department trip.

“This is a unique event at Medway High School that allows all of our students to show off their musical talent,” Dr. Murray said. “The concert is a great way for our Tri-M members to spread their passion for music by giving other students a platform to perform and share their music with the community.”

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), which focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy and is the only music honor society for high school students in the country. Tri-M recognizes students that have gone above and beyond academically and musically, and provides students leadership opportunities to make a difference in their community through music-based service projects.
