Raymond’s Lamprey River Kindergarten Students Craft Gingerbread Houses
RAYMOND — Kindergarten students at Lamprey River Elementary School got in the holiday spirit Friday morning, crafting colorful gingerbread houses out of cookies, frosting and a multitude of candies.
Making gingerbread houses each December has become a tradition at Lamprey River, and a handful of parent volunteers joined students Friday and donated supplies.
“I’m so happy to be here making gingerbread houses with my daughter and her friends,” said Shannon Shurtleff, mom to kindergartner Mary Shurtleff.
Parents and teachers at the event helped students as they frosted their gingerbread houses and chose candy decorations.
Kindergarten students read gingerbread man themed books with their classes leading up to the annual event, and analyzed characters and settings.
“We’ve been building holiday spirit with this,” said Lamprey River kindergarten teacher Jessica Jortberg. “It’s something they look forward to every year. And parents get to come in and do it with them.”
Students took their gingerbread houses home at the end of the school day Friday.
“It’s great to get parents in and get parents and kids at school at the same time,” said Jay Frechette, parent to kindergarten student Jackson Frechette. “It’s a time to hang out with family and it gives them the whole spirit of the season.”
