Raymond’s Lamprey River Elementary Staff Receive Generous Donations from Son of Former Teacher
RAYMOND, N.H. — Superintendent Tina McCoy and Principal Laura Yacek are pleased to announce that donations were recently given to teachers at Lamprey River Elementary School to help them purchase school supplies.
Kindergarten teacher Michele Busby received $1,000 from Tim Boynton, the son of former longtime LRES teacher Susan Boynton, who passed away in 2009. Boynton created the Triple S Award, which stands for Susan’s Shopping Spree as a way to honor his mother and give back to the school she loved so much.
Tim Boynton, who now lives in Florida, reached out to Principal Yacek in August, introducing himself and saying that he wanted to give back to the school. He proposed starting an annual giveaway to a teacher at the school so they could buy needed supplies for their classroom.
Teachers wrote a short letter summarizing why teaching is so important to them and what they would do with a $1,000. The winner, Busby, was then asked to make an Amazon wish list, and Boynton purchased the supplies.
A total of seven teachers submitted essays to Tim and his partner, Alvin. They chose Busby as the winner, and also decided to give a $50 Amazon gift card to all of the other staff who submitted essays. One staff member wrote about an iPad for a student that she works with, and Tim and Alvin also purchased a refurbished iPad for that teacher to use with the student.
Busby used her $1,000 to purchase snow gear, boots and snacks for students that needed them, as well as for flexible seating for her classroom.
Tim and Alvin visited the LRES staff in November to meet Busby, and to hand-deliver the Amazon gift cards and the iPad. They also presented a plaque that will be hung up in the school for all to see.
“Tim really went above and beyond with his generosity and support, and he has said he wants to make this an annual tradition,” Principal Yacek said. “We still have staff here at LRES that worked with Susan and have such fond memories of her, and now her son is giving back to the school in such a special way. It’s quite remarkable.”
When visiting last month, Tim even had the privilege of touring the school’s kindergarten hallway, which was dedicated to his mother when the new wing was built in 2010. A plaque is hung in the hallway with Susan’s name on it.
“Susan was a teacher here from 1988 to 2009, and after all these years the Boynton family is still making this school a special place to be,” Principal Yacek said. “It meant a lot to have Tim return to the school almost a decade after the wing was dedicated to his mom, and I know it meant a lot to him as well.”
