Training Sessions Scheduled for Strafford County Cold Weather Shelter Volunteers
ROCHESTER — City Manager Blaine Cox and Fire Chief Mark Klose announce that those interested in volunteering at the Strafford County Extreme Cold Weather Emergency Shelter are invited to take part in an upcoming training session.
The sessions are being held on the following dates and times:
- Friday, Dec. 13, at the McConnell Center in Dover from 6-8 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 14, at the County Alms House in Dover from 10 a.m. to noon
- Monday, Dec. 16 at the Rochester Library from 6-8 p.m.
Each of the sessions are identical to one another, and anyone interested in volunteering at the emergency shelter this winter must have completed this training program. To sign up, click here.
The training is also recommended for anyone who would like to support any city, town or local agency shelter operation.
“We’re eager to welcome volunteers to support this critical lifesaving effort, which has become a hallmark of our county’s efforts to protect the less fortunate during extreme winter cold,” Chief Klose said. “However, it’s important that all volunteers are well informed and trained so that they can most effectively fulfill their responsibilities.”
The Extreme Cold Weather Emergency Shelter is activated on an as-needed basis in order to provide homeless members of the community with a refuge from life-threatening cold weather during the winter.
Anyone with questions may contact scwarmingshelter@gmail.com directly. Light refreshments will be provided at the training sessions.
