Easton Fire Department Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Newly-Renovated Station 2
EASTON — Chief Kevin Partridge is pleased to announce that a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the construction project at Station 2 was a success over the weekend.
Over 80 people attended the event held on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Easton Fire Department Station 2, 87 Depot St.
Several local and state officials spoke at the event, including Easton Select Board Chair Dottie Fulginiti, along with local developer Douglas A. King, who funded the renovation project. State Senator Walter Timilty and State Senator Michael Brady both gave remarks.
The event was attended by the members of the Easton Select Board, Assistant Town Administrator Michael Blanchard, and Architect Douglas Annino of Annino Inc., among others.
The project, which broke ground on May 6, included a complete renovation of the existing building, while adding a second floor addition to the firehouse that includes modern bunk rooms, a new locker room and male and female showers.
“This newly-renovated station will give our firefighters the modern facilities they need to do their jobs to the best of their abilities,” Chief Partridge said. “We broke ground on May 6, and just a short eight months later, we have a beautifully renovated station that will provide nice, comfortable quarters for our firefighters and room for our apparatus. We could not be happier with the finished product, and have already received many positive comments from members of the Easton Fire Department and community at large.”
Station 2 was closed while the project was ongoing and is expected to reopen next week after some finishing touches are complete.
The project was funded as part of an agreement with the town regarding the Queset Smart Growth Overlay District that was approved at Town Meeting in 2008.
“This renovation was a long time in the works, and we are pleased that our firefighters have a station they truly deserve,” Town Administrator Connor Read said. “We take great pride in supporting public safety, and hope this new station meets the Fire Department’s needs for years to come.”
In addition to the ribbon-cutting, Chief Partridge presented a special commemorative plaque to mark the re-opening of Station 2 and honored a group of 25 firefighters with service award ribbons for their service to the Easton Fire Department.
Easton Firefighters have been touring the station since the ribbon cutting, and have remarked that it will be a much better facility to work at and live in for 24 hours at a time.
“Originally this station was built in 1935 and before it got redone it was feeling every bit of being that old,” said Lt. Jason Healey, who will be working out of the station once operational. “The floors were uneven, it was very old and run down. Everything here now has brought us up to date and where we need to be.”
Lt. Healey also noted that preserving the history of the original building was a nice touch.
“We still have the old fire pole. Some of the old signs and old equipment have been turned into decorations,” he said. “I like the historical aspect and the fire services aspect of it.”
